Rare Data

Privacy policy

Plain-language information about what Rare Data products keep on your device, what you choose to send, and the services used to run this website.

Effective August 19, 2026

1. The short version

Rare Data does not require a Compa account and does not receive your songs, recordings, projects, stems, MIDI performances, or device setup merely because you use the app. That creative work stays on your device unless you choose to export or share it.

We collect only the information needed to operate this website, deliver optional downloads and newsletters, process support requests, and understand website campaigns. Apple handles App Store purchases.

2. Compa data stored on your device

Compa stores projects, sessions, recordings, samples, stems, kits, routing choices, preferences, and related media locally in the app's storage or in a location you select through Apple's Files interface. Deleting the app may delete app-local data, subject to Apple's backup and storage behavior.

Compa can communicate with class-compliant audio and MIDI hardware, AUv3 extensions, Bluetooth MIDI devices, and peers on your local network. Those connections are used to perform the functions you request. Rare Data does not receive the music or MIDI passing through those connections.

3. Microphone, speech, and local-network permissions

Compa asks for microphone access only for features that record audio or accept spoken input. Ask ChaCha's written guidance is generated from knowledge shipped in the app. If you use optional voice dictation, Compa uses Apple's Speech framework. Depending on your device, language, and Apple settings, Apple may process the audio or transcription under Apple's own privacy terms. Rare Data does not receive that dictation audio or transcript.

Local-network permission supports features such as Ableton Link and local device discovery. Bluetooth permission supports compatible MIDI connections. You can change permissions at any time in iOS or iPadOS Settings, although the related feature may stop working.

4. Optional downloads and documentation

Some features can download optional model files, documentation, or other assets from Rare Data's hosting providers, including Backblaze B2. Like most hosting services, those providers may receive standard connection information such as IP address, request time, user agent, and the requested file. We use that information to deliver and secure the download, not to inspect your creative work.

5. Purchases

Compa is offered as a paid-up-front App Store download. It does not use a free trial, subscription, or secondary Compa unlock. Apple processes the purchase and provides Rare Data with sales and financial reporting governed by Apple's terms. Rare Data does not receive your full payment-card number.

6. Information you choose to send

If you email support, join a newsletter, submit a device report or Sniff Test, join the Discord community, or otherwise contact Rare Data, we receive the information you choose to provide. A diagnostic report can include device names, connection details, app and system versions, and technical state intended to help reproduce a problem. Compa does not send such a report until you choose to share it.

Support email may be handled through Resend or the configured email provider. Newsletter subscriptions are handled through Brevo. Discord participation is governed by Discord's privacy terms.

7. Website analytics and advertising

Raredata.net uses ordinary server logs and the Meta Pixel to measure page visits and advertising performance. Meta may receive device, browser, cookie, IP-address, and page-interaction information and may use it under Meta's own terms. Depending on where you live, this use may be considered targeted advertising or the sharing of personal information.

You can limit this activity with browser privacy controls, content blockers, cookie settings, and Meta's advertising settings. Rare Data does not sell personal information for money. To request access, correction, deletion, or an applicable advertising opt-out, contact us at the address below.

8. Retention and security

We keep support messages, mailing-list records, voluntary diagnostic reports, and necessary business records only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose collected, legal obligations, fraud prevention, and dispute resolution. We use reasonable safeguards, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure.

9. Children and international processing

Rare Data services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, subject to their safeguards and applicable law.

10. Changes and contact

We may update this policy as products and services change. The date below identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
