Your Samples Should Outlive the Machine You Started On

Portability is about keeping the decisions with the sounds: pad placement, trims, and the parts of a sequence a destination can understand.

One sample folder branches into separate sampler destinations, illustrating project portability.

A sample folder is easy to copy. The work around it is harder to move. Pad order, trims, layers, choke groups, and sequence timing can become a second project you rebuild each time you change machines.

Quota Kits began with the idea of laying out that folder once. Version 1.3 extends it to portable sampler projects.

Keep the useful structure

The useful unit is often larger than a WAV file. A sound belongs on a pad, that pad has a role, and the pattern tells you how it was meant to play. Koala projects, MPC Sample projects, MPC/Force drum programs, and CHOMP projects each express those ideas differently.

The conversion work is in preserving what the destination can represent, while keeping the source intact.

Differences should be visible

There is no universal sampler file that makes every machine identical. An MPC/Force XPM holds a drum program, not a sequence. A Selector Pad can have more layers than a destination understands. Some project formats have fewer sequence slots.

The export report is part of the product. It should tell you when a layer was flattened or a setting has no direct equivalent, instead of leaving you to discover the change during playback.

Saving a Quota recipe before trying several destinations keeps the imported detail available for the next attempt.

A project also needs its media

Finding the audio and writing the right folder structure is less glamorous than drawing pads, but it decides whether the exported project opens. A complete MPC Sample project, for example, includes both its XPJ and the matching ProjectData folder.

Version 1.3 adds more of that project-level work, including discovery on mounted media. The original files remain the reference while the destination gets its own new project.

More room to choose the next machine

The goal is to make changing tools less repetitive. Use the sampler that suits the next part of the idea, with more of the work you already did traveling alongside the sounds.

The current 1.3.1 maintenance release standardizes the Selector Pad name and updates the manual. The product release note contains the format-by-format limits and current download details.
